The 32nd Division was organized under War Dept. orders of 18 July 1917 of National Guard Units from both Wisconsin and Michigan. Units began leaving state camps in Wisconsin and Michigan bound for Camp MacArthur, near Waco, Texas, in early August 1917. The last units arrived at Camp MacArthur by late September 1917. The Division served on the front line during World War I from 18 May 1918 until the end of the War on 11 November 1918. It was the first American Division to pierce the famed Hindenburg Line, fought in 4 major offensives and earned the name “Les Terribles” from the French.

It was on June 23, 1922 the first meeting of EX-Service men was held to form an American Legion Post. Mark B. Owens was elected chairman of the meeting. This meeting was held in the east end of the Farmington Water Works, which was donated by the Village of Farmington.

Names for the application for the Charter were; Howard Eisenlord, Mark B. Owens, Carl Hogle, Norman Lee, Roy O. Robinson, Alfred Smith, Harley Schroder, George Lee, Almeron Bidwell, Fred Schaupeter, Harley Warner, Stanley Smith, Culver Wood, Carl A. Goers, Fred Maas

On July 10, 1922, The Department of Michigan replied that the number of the Post would be 346. The newly elected Officers of Post 346 were:

On July 20, 1922 the first-Home Coming to be held on Labor Day, September 4, 1922 at the four corners of Farmington Rd. at Grand River Ave.

At a meeting Nov. 2, 1922 it was voted, by the Post to purchase Colors and Standards from Emblem Division at a price of $135. Motion by: Carl Goers and supported by: Roy Robinson (passed). On December 21. 1922, The Post was given a Name To be known as the: GROVES WALKER POST 346, DEPARTMENT of MICHIGAN In memory of Bertraw Groves and Lemuel Walker who were killed in action.

After Farmington Centennial Celebration in 1924. The Log Cabin was built and turned over to Groves Walker Post 346 as a Club Home. "The Home Coming Days" were looked forward to each year, the profits of these Fun and Entertainments were put into a fund for the future of a home to hold the meetings.

On August 17, 1929 A new Home was realized. and through the efforts of Comrades Howard Warner and Harley Warner we acquired our goal. The Groves Walker Post moved to 33109 Grand River, (South-East corner of Grove St.), which was the most active spot in the Village. Many Fish Fries and Oyster Stews and talks about our next coming Gala-Day were the talk of the Post. The Post have always tried to do their best in all functions of the Town and Village to sponsor Boy Scouts. Base Ball, Basket Ball; All for the American Way of life.

On November 2, 1944 at a special meeting of the Groves Walker Post 346. Articles of Incorporation were filed for and were accepted and to proceed to file with the Michigan Securities Commission with Judge J.J. Schulte, Council for Groves Walker Post 346 American Legion Memorial Home Association. Farmington, Michigan. We approached the Dawn of Building our New Home. We acquired the lot from a good friend of the Legion Mr. Herert on May 6, 1945.

In the Spring of 1947, we started operations for our present Home, 31775 Grand River at Lake Way. With all the monies we acquired from all our functions, through the years. We started to reach our goal. With the help of the Citizens and Friends of Groves Walker Post 346, We give you our sincere THANKS for work well done.

The Ladies Auxiliary Unit of Post 346 was organized on August 13, 1925. We are humbled for their sincere and untiring cooperation in helping the Post: in all our activities through the years. Words can not express our feelings. Thank You from the bottom of our hearts. The first President of the Auxiliary was Mrs. Florence Lee and the secretary was Mrs. Alma Elkins.
